The Real High School Orientation

Years ago, I asked each of my children what information they needed to enter and manage the high school. Their answers were all consistent—Sex, Drugs, Reputation, and Bullies. Now that I have grandchildren, I ask them the same questions, and the answers are the exact same—How do I deal with the pressures of sex, drugs, fitting in, and the people who try to manipulate, make fun of, or bully me? This program, led by Dorian, shares the real answers that empower students to be true to themselves during a challenging life transition.

I had a panic attack the evening after my first day of high school orientation. I realized I was stepping into a new paradigm around sex, drugs, gossip, and insecurity, and I felt totally underprepared. I’ve gone on to do significant work in high schools, even at orientations, but there are limitations to what I can talk about there. This workshop is the answer to those limitations.
We’ll talk honestly about hook up culture, drug culture, porn, bullying, fitting in, privilege, safety, and more. Students will be empowered to face challenges without becoming overwhelmed and resorting to the myriad ways of numbing out and self-medicating.
