LECTURE OVERVIEW

Both teachers and students are being targeted for violence. In the last five years there has been a growing tendency for students to commit violent acts toward teachers. Ironically the majority of these attacks were predictable and avoidable. Andre Salvage and Associates has developed this workshop to share with teachers and administration staff how to recognize potential violence, then share tools and skills to avoid and stop someone from harming them.

LECTURE OUTLINE

  • Internal and external signs of violence.
  • Listening to students.
  • Danger Words and Actions.
  • Creating a safety plan.
  • Asking students questions to determine violence.
  • Tools for talking to students.

    LECTURE OUTCOME

There are certain safety and awareness skills that one can use to recognize potential violence in others. These principles go beyond judging, profiling, and creating hysteria, but give teachers additional tools to avoid being one of the increasing number of victims of student violence. The intended outcome is for each participant is to increase their awareness and come away with true survival skills without instilling fear and paranoia.
