LECTURE OVERVIEW Being a pre-teen is difficult enough without the added fear of personal safety. During this time, their physical development, and their need for independence and advice away from home, can lead children into unsafe or potentially dangerous situations. This lecture was developed to help boys and girls face the dangers and pressures that can occur in school and on the streets with confidence and objectivity. In an honest and safe environment, we share with them the necessary tools, enabling them to view threatening situations objectively and stop someone from harming them. LECTURE OUTLINE Internal awareness of your intuition. Having a plan of safety. Being street aware. Avoiding being pulled by friends or strangers. Asserting yourself. Not moving like a victim or a challenge. Everyday assertiveness. Saying something when there is danger. Proper body language. Self defense stragities. Knowing when to run, scream, say something, or fight back. |
