LECTURE OVERVIEW

Andre Salvage and Associates, Inc. has been teaching safety lectures and workshops for over twenty years. The majority of violence that occurs is predictable. To avoid becoming a victim, it is important to be aware, have a plan, learn to respect boundaries, and speak up when something is not right. This course is designed to share with students how to recognize potentially violent peers, and what to do if they suspect violent behavior. Without instilling fear or using stereotypes, Andre Salvage and Associates, Inc. will share the tools necessary for personal safety and will help participants avoid being a victim of random violence.

LECTURE OUTLINE

  • Recognizing potentially violent people
  • Listening to messages behind the words
  • External signs of violence
  • Having a plan
  • How to tell someone your concern
  • What to do if approached on the street
  • What to do if you suspect or know someone is planning violence
  • Who to talk to if you are feeling violent tendencies

LECTURE OUTCOME

College should be a place where students can learn the necessary skills for life. It should be a time of excitement and discovery, not a place where they worry if they will get to school safely, or whether or not someone will decide to harm them. The intended outcome of this course is to give students peace of mind by offering them practical tools of safety so they can face problems and threats that affect them with confidence.
