COURSE OUTLINE

Outlined below are proposed courses suitable for each grade that have proven to be very beneficial and essential to a young person’s safety.

SAFETY AND AWARENESS (Freshman)

This basic lecture covers the three tools and skills that young people need for personal safety. These tools include awareness, assertiveness, and self-defense. This lecture is informative, entertaining, and very interactive. The principles discussed educate students on safety, as well as train them on how to trust their intuition and assert themselves. These tools help this age group find a better sense of self to raise their confidence in school, as well as their daily life.

  • Understanding assaults
  • Myths and realities of assaults
  • Safety at work, school, dormitories, street and home
  • Ways in which assaults occur
  • Understanding date or acquaintance rape
  • Listening to your intuition
  • When the bond of friends becomes negative

    HARRASSMENT AWARENSS (Sophomore)

During this stage of a teen's life, they are exploring their connections and finding their place among friends, family, and personal relationships. Social, peer, and outside pressures often cause these communications to take on the form of harassment, which creates conflict and struggle. Without instilling guilt or shame Andre Salvage and Associates, Inc. will discuss ways harassment occurs and how to avoid and stop it from occurring in their lives.

  • The effects of harassment
  • Clearly define the difference between flirting and harassment
  • Responsibilities as the harasser and as the person being harassed
  • How to stop the harassment
  • Educating people on how to treat you
  • Hearing others assertive behavior before it's too late

ASSERTIVENESS LECTURE AND ROLE PLAY (Juniors)

Having the skills to say how you feel is important at this stage in life. Through creative role-play, each child will have the chance to use their voice to handle aggressive situations.

  • De-escalating problems
  • Using your voice correctly
  • Proper body language/understanding how people perceive you
  • Educating friends, parents, teachers on how to treat you, without disrespect to others
  • Speaking up when something is wrong

    HANDS ON SELF-DEFENS (Seniors)

There really is no better way to instill confidence and peace of mind, than to know you have the ability to stop someone from harming you. This knowledge is an important tool to have for young people going off the college, living on their own for the first time, or entering the workplace. Many of the graduates of this course have testified how these skills have helped them avoid date assaults, as well as being pulled into dangerous situations. Having successfully defended themselves against padded attackers, each student will carry the confidence gained from this experience with them for a long time after the class is over.

  • Hands-on training
  • Stopping someone from harming you
  • Defending yourself from grabs
  • Standing and ground techniques
  • Self-defense against a single attacker
