SEMINAR OVERVIEW As children get older they want more freedom and responsibility. However, with this freedom comes the possibility of danger. There are people who will, for no apparent reason, harm, kidnap and abuse children. In a safe and engaging environment, Andre Salvage and Associates will share how to avoid danger, and how to stop anyone from taking advantage of their innocence, size and curiosity. Fostering self-confidence without instilling fear, this lecture will share with children the skills and tools necessary to avoid harm. With age-appropriate information they will engage in role play with our highly trained instructors. This demonstration of safety skills will solidify what they have learned. SEMINAR OUTLINE Awareness Children need to be confidently "aware" as oppose to fear based "beware of" consciousness. During this portion of the course we will do exercises that enhance their external awareness of danger and what to do. Additionally we will share the importance of listening, trusting and following one's intuition, a true valuable tool for personal safety.
- Trust their feelings (intuition) Listening to your intuition
- Avoid being pulled and tricked (abducted)
- Stop inappropriate touching
- Stranger: not who they are, what they do
- Know the tricks used to lure children
- Ways in which assaults occur
Assertiveness It is okay for a young person not to know exactly what they want. It is not okay for someone else to try to convince them of what they want. Having the ability to educate strangers, casual acquaintances, best friends and family about how one wants to be treated is a necessary life skill.
- Use their voice and body correctly
- Say "NO" then "GO" and "TELL"
- Proper body language/understanding how people perceive you
- Educating friends, parents, teachers on how to treat you, without disrespect to others
- Speaking up when something is wrong
Self-Defense All of the above skills are solidified in the learning and knowing how to physically stop some one from harming you. This type of confidence gives children the courage and values not to fight but to make intuitive, confident, personal safety decisions.
