For Teachers and Faculty
LECTURE OUTLINE
Often schools, teachers and students are unaware that they are moving as if they are hosting the party. Hosting the party is an unconscious… sometimes conscious way of saying and moving that the way “we” speak, do things, interact and learn is the correct way, and the students of color are learning how to do it correctly. This automatically separates, alienates and can causes students and parents of color to never feel the school is theirs.
This lecture is designed for teachers and faculty to bring awareness to this issue and share ways to make your school and classroom more inclusive to all students.
Here are the topics:
- Opening your school to all students
- Hosting verses Associating
- Some things just make life easier
- Appreciating and valuing others perspectives and ways
- Using what students know instead of changing them to fit you.
- Fostering a since of belonging
