WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

Two of the greatest skills you can have in your professional and personal life are the ability to listen and express yourself. This gift used correctly can help in every aspect of your life, from resolving conflicts to helping you live a life free of guilt and worry.

This workshop goes beyond the traditional methods of teaching a set of skills and hoping that they can be used. These courses are all designed to help participants see the limitation of the habitual, unhealthy, fear-based behaviors that we often use to handle our business, family and life situations which only causes negative cycles to repeat. Then, in a safe environment, participants are given the opportunity to practice more authentic, confidence based responses.  The result is new ways of communicating that break those cycles and lead instead to healthy relating and effective performance.

WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Listening

During the lecture we will discuss some of the habitual, but unproductive ways people listen and ways to change this behavior.

Here are some of the topics we will cover:

  • The power of words
  • Listening with the protection of the ego
  • Listening with your True Nature
  • Hearing the message behind the words
  • Acknowledging what you hear

Expressing Yourself

Saying how you feel is like a muscle that needs exercising. Through real life role-play we will practice hearing others objectively and asserting ourselves effectively. The secret is in your ability to start from this objective place then move towards becoming more aggressive or passive depending on the situation.

Role plays, discussion, and lecture on the following topics:

  • Role playing on responding to the messages behind the words
  • Knowing the difference between Assertiveness, Aggressiveness and              Passiveness
  • Expressing yourself clearly and with dignity
  • Voice control and body language
  • Speaking to empower not in a condescending manner
    • De‑escalating a problem
    • Hearing the messages behind the words

WORKSHOP OUTCOME:

Each participant will have the skills to translate the principles we discussed into a set of practice tools they can use in your individual jobs.  Even though these ideas relate to every aspect of your life they are particularly useful in everyday work related matters. From resolving conflict to team building, listening and being able to assert yourself are very powerful tools.
